With football season in full swing, injuries are once again increasingly common. Tony Romo, the Dallas Cowboy’s quarterback, suffered a broken clavicle this past Sunday after being sacked by a Philadelphia Eagles linebacker. Fractures of the clavicle, or collarbone, are among the most common injuries seen at all levels of play. The clavicle is a long tubular bone that connects the arm to the body and it most often breaks in the middle, but it can also break at either end.
Whether it is your first 5k or your 50th, knowing how to recover is an important part of being a smart runner. The significance of recovery is usually overlooked because of all the time spent focusing on training and preparation. You’ve made it to the final two weeks of training! How you spend the final phase before the big day is critical to the outcome of your race. Your fifth week regimen should focus on maintaining a comfortable “race pace” while still slowly increasing your endurance. Your sixth week, or race week, should be spent doing lighter workouts.
